Once perceived as a 'corporate policeman' the internal audit role is now considered a business advisory one and is vital to an organisation in improving its business performance.

Opportunities for specialising in internal audit are widely available within medium to large organisations across the banking & financial services sector, throughout commerce & industry and within the Profession. Projects will vary greatly but a newly qualified accountant will generally be required to carry out in-depth investigations of the business in order to form an opinion on business processes & controls and performance assessment. A newly qualified accountant in an internal audit job will be expected to make recommendations for improvement and add value where appropriate.
